ABOUT US

Welcome to Dunstall Estate, over 1000 acres of agricultural and glorious woodland in the heart of the English countryside.

Dunstall is an agricultural and residential Estate, owned and run by Simon Clarke. Dunstall is a small village situated 4 miles west of Burton-on-Trent with easy access to A38 and located close to Barton under Needwood.

The Dunstall Estate covers 1,000 acres of agricultural land including outstanding park and woodland in the County of Staffordshire. Run as a sustainable farming operation, the Estate’s extensive acres centres around Old Hall, an impressive Grade II listed country house which has undergone extensive refurbishment. Old Hall is situated on the site of the original Dunstall Hall built in the 1600’s.

The present owners are the most recent custodians in the Estate’s long and distinguished history. Records show that in 1145 the Earl of Derby owned the Dunstall Estate. In 1652, Thomas Bott, held property in Dunstall that included the original mansion now known as Old Hall.

On the death of his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Beardsley in the late 1700’s, the Estate was sold to John Meek, a wealthy cheese-factor from Barton-under-Needwood.

In 1814 the estate was bought by Richard Arkwright junior, (son of Sir Richard Arkwright) for his son Charles who lived there and who was High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1849.

Charles died in 1850 childless and the estate was sold to John Hardy, later Sir John Hardy Bt. Hardy and later his son, Sir Reginald Hardy (High Sheriff 1893).

After the death of the 3rd Hardy Baronet in 1953 the estate was sold to Midlands civil engineer Sir Robert Douglas and on his death in 1997 it was sold to property developer Sir Stanley Clarke (High Sheriff 2003-2004), father of the current owner, Simon Clarke (High Sheriff 2011-2012).
